Description

Menopause is the ending of the menstrual periods. This phenomenon normally occurs between the ages of 45 and 52 even though it may occur before or after this time. The cause for this is the decrease in the hormone production by the ovaries (Estrogen and Progesterone).

Symptoms

  • Irregular menstruations, sometimes with a lot of bleeding and others with almost none, occurring each time with less and less frequency.
  • Hot flashes and sweating during the night.
  • Vaginal dryness
  • A tendency towards brittle bones (osteoporosis)
  • Changes in personality
  • Vaginitis and urinary tract infections
  • Insomnia
  • Cardiac problems

When menopause is over the woman becomes free from a complete series of physical and psychological discomforts. This allows her to lead a more complete and stable life.

Causes

The cause of irregular and abundant bleeding in women in the menopause stage are due to the absence of ovulation, which causes, as a consequence, an imbalance in the hormonal production of estrogen and progesterone.

Either excessive estrogen is produced or not enough progesterone is produced. The emotional aspect of excessive bleeding during menopause, or even of growing old, play a key role in either the decrease or increase of the menstrual flow. Besides menopausal symptoms, the consumption of alcohol and caffeine in large quantities may produce irregular bleedings. Profuse and irregular bleeding may also occur because of fibromas or cysts in the uterus. In some cases, these cysts may be of cancerous origin, which is why a biopsy or a medical check-up is recommended.

Suggested Care

Hot flashes are a result of a decrease in the production of the estrogen hormone.

  • To diminish hot flashes you should eliminate coffee, cola beverages and alcohol besides living a quiet life without stress.
  • It has been proven that the Royal Jelly contains estrogen hormones, which is why taking from 500 to 750 mg. (2 to 3 capsules of 250 mg.) of royal jelly can substitute for the loss of this substance in women and help reduce the effects caused by menopause. Other recommended elements during menopause are the intake of ginseng and large doses of vitamin-E (600 IU / daily).
  • Since Osteoporosis is another problem present in post-menopausal women, the intake of 800 to 1,500 mg. of calcium is recommended. Dairy products such as milk, cheese and yogurt have a high calcium content:
  • In order for the calcium to be assimilated there must be vitamin -D in the body. This is produced in the skin when it is exposed to the sun’s rays, Fish liver oil also has concentration of vitamin-D.
  • Protein intake must be reduced while grain and vegetable consumption increased. This diminishes the risk of having osteoporosis.
  • The consumption of farm-fresh products such as wheat germ, alfalfa, etc., is important.
